THE APPROACH
True-to-Color Eastern Orthodox Sacramental Photography in Buffalo, NY
The Divine Liturgy is not a backdrop; it is a sacred reality. Documenting these services requires an instinctive understanding of liturgical movement and an absolute reverence for the Holy Mysteries. We believe in preserving the authentic atmosphere of the temple exactly as it exists: the soft, living glow of beeswax candles, the rich grain of hand-carved wood, and the specific, intentional colors of the shifting liturgical seasons—from the deep, solemn purples of preparation to the radiant whites and golds of celebration.
By prioritizing editorial precision over passing digital trends, your history is documented with strict tonal fidelity. Whether archiving an intimate Eastern Orthodox baptism in Western New York or traveling for a grand wedding crowning nationwide, our work remains entirely subservient to the beauty, order, and time-honored traditions of the ancient faith.
THE COVENANT

Documenting the Holy Mysteries

Crowning/Wedding
The quiet rustle of the procession, the weight of the crowns, and the solemn joy of two becoming one flesh before the altar. A timeless reality preserved exactly as it unfolded, capturing the sacred order and enduring beauty of a new kingdom's beginning.
Baptism/Chrismation
The soft splash of the three-fold immersion, the sweet scent of holy chrism, and the profound stillness of a soul entering Christ’s Church. Every detail remains sacred—whether marking the infancy of a child or the solemn confession of an adult convert.
Liturgical Life
The gentle swing of the censer, the rich glow of icons under candlelight, and the communal warmth of feast days. A faithful visual lineage of a parish family, archiving the shared devotion and sacred history that spans the changing seasons.
The Namesake
Mary Magdalene
Magdalene Photo Co. is named in honor of my patron saint, Mary Magdalene, the Holy Myrrh-bearer and Equal-to-the-Apostles.
My devotion to her began long before I picked up a camera in a sanctuary. Throughout my own journey into the Church, she has remained a constant, grounding figure—a reminder of what it looks like to move from darkness into the light. She was the first to arrive at the tomb while it was still dark, carrying sweet spices to quietly care for the body of Christ. In her profound devotion, she became the very first witness to the Resurrection, seeing the truth exactly as it was.
I carry her name as a daily reminder of my own calling. This company is built in her spirit: to quietly enter sacred spaces, to serve with humility, and to bear witness to the enduring, unadorned beauty of the ancient faith. When I am behind the lens at a baptism or a crowning, I am not just taking photos; I am serving as a witness to the holy work being done in your life and in your parish.
"The photos are beautiful."

The Stewardship
Returning to the Sacred
I am Kristin Chapman. After ten years as a photographer and five years in the wedding industry, I found myself deeply burned out. Traditional weddings had become more about putting on a big show than honoring the actual marriage. I felt like the true reverence was completely gone.
Everything changed when I became Orthodox. Witnessing the Holy Mysteries ignited something in my soul, and I found a deep spiritual connection to the sacraments. Since then, my parish priest has trusted me to photograph every important event in our church—including the immense honor of documenting the day our archbishop awarded him the jeweled cross.
That milestone made my path completely clear. I realized the only thing I want to photograph is the life of the Church. Based in Western New York, my goal is to step quietly into the background, so that when you look back at these moments, you simply see the raw, beautiful truth of the service exactly as it was.
